The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph started as a small adobe church established in 1803, and has grown into one of the foremost parishes in California. The Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments gave this Cathedral the status of minor-basilica in 1997 because of its historical, artistic, and pastoral significance. The Cathedral is located off 87 Parkway, near San Jose State University.
