Excellent prime rib and fondue

Posted byhernakaon 5/31/2008

I have going to the Bold Knight for at least 30 years, I'm stil not disappointed... Last week we took my mother for a 70th birthday celebration and it was great. We ordered fondue and calamari for appetizers and had their fabulous prime rib for our main course. The good was great, except for the salad, it had brown edges (not good). But the prme rib was great, huge portions with plemty of au jus and horseradish. Really nice bar if you have the time, and their wine list was nice too. The waitress also remembered that I said serve the "birthdday girl first" when our meals came to us, as 3 of us ordered the extra cut prime rib, She later brougjht ice cream with a candle and we ended the evening singing happy birthday to MOM! We are definately going back. Next time we'll try the porterhouse! One more thing, I do wish that they still offered "pride of the cattleman", a great piece of meat!

Bold Knight restaurant in San Jose, CA

We recently dined at the "new" location and were pleasantly pleased with our evening. The restaurant is wheelchair friendly and the staff went out of their way to be accomodating. This is the best place to order a Monte Christo sandwich as they begin with 3 slices of cooked french toast (no soggy bread here) and layer it with ham, turkey and cheese. I order it served with maple syrup but other dipping sauces are available such as berry conserves. While the sandwich is only offered on the lunch menu they were willing to let me order it for dinner. Others in our party ordered different meals with the only down side being the Halibut which was thin and overcooked.

Food is very good!

Bold Knight Bistro has replaced the old Bold Knight restaurant, and the Bistro has a much higher class atmosphere. The food is still very good and the service is good. The downside is that the fondue is no longer included with your meal.

Horrible Service with excuses on the side

When we first walked in we were seated promptly, and the restaurant was mostly empty save for two other tables and four people at the bar. My wife and I were on a lunch break and wanted to get a quick bite to eat. We had chosen Bold Knight because we are used to getting good food there and for their famous Fondu. We our waitress came over to order I asked her advice on a few choices and asked her what would be quickest to order since we didn't have alot of time. She steered me away from my original choice onto a smaller more simple dish and assured me it would only take 15 minutes compared to 25-30 with the other. i said that would be perfect and we placed our order and asked her again if she could rush it. We got our appetizer quickly but soon we began to wonder where our food was. So I got up to ask one of the other servers if they could find out for us. As soon as I sat back down I heard our waitress yelling across the dinning area at the gentleman we had asked to check on our food. She was shouting "its not my fault he wanted it well dont" which she repeated three times quite loudly. When she then came to our table I asked her if she realized we could all hear her, she replied that she knew, and didn't care. A few min. later she brought our food. It took 29 min. (yes I actually was using my stopwatch). Normally a friendly apology for the delay would have smoothed it over for me but instead she blamed me for ordering my food the way I had, inspite of the fact she assured me it would only take 15 min. We quickly finished our meal and I left her a note with friendly advice and I quote... "Instead of shouting across the restaurant, it would be much better to apologize to the customer regardless of who is right or wrong. Not only will they will be much happier and leave better tips, but they will leave with a postive memory of their dining experience here." We still even gave her a decent tip. And she followed us to our car and was yelling at us.
